The Philanthropic Philharmonic is a virtual collective of musicians who use their talents to support various social causes by amplifying the voices of changemakers in physical communities.

Hey there, thank you for checking out the Philanthropic Philharmonic, or as we like to call ourselves: the PhilPhil! We are a collective group of musicians who play cover songs and compositions to help promote charitable causes. We accomplish this by making videos and recordings, then donating the streaming revenue from them. Our goal is to have as much fun making music as we can, and make a difference doing it!

The PhilPhil is flourishing into a vibrant and fun online community for musicians to network and collaborate. Our members generously give their time and skill in many ways: performing, arranging, editing, and more! It is a lot of work, but our community is full of genuine passion for what we do. Our goal is to reach as wide an audience as possible to foster a love for the performing arts and to raise money for as many charitable causes as we can.

Our promise to our community is transparency. We invite all of our PhilPhil members to vote on the charities that we support with each project, and 100% of our streaming revenue goes to those charities. Support for our operating costs (including licensing fees) come from our Patreon account and the pockets of our administrative team. While we are not currently a registered nonprofit, we take our role as philanthropists and representatives of the music community very seriously.

Our Founder’s Story

I’m Tristan Perez, and the PhilPhil wasn’t always the PhilPhil. I was scrolling on a meme page on Facebook that was full of college students. I found a thread where musicians were discussing how much they missed playing together, and wanted to collaborate on something. I created a post to see if anyone would be interested in remotely recording an original composition, and the response was overwhelming.

I gave myself two weeks to compose a piece for wind ensemble (to accommodate the instrumentation) and then sent the music out. After about a month of recording and editing the final product was ready. I asked the musicians if they were okay with me using the piece to raise money for Direct Relief, a non profit that was providing aid to the parts of the world hit the hardest by the pandemic. After seeing the excitement from the musicians to help with a cause, and seeing how many of them wanted to keep recording music, the Philanthropic Philharmonic was founded!

With a new focus on fun and accessible music, we hope to keep making videos for as long as we can, and with your help we know we can make a difference.
